Saturday baseball: Wasilla tops SoHi; Palmer beats Kenai

Friday baseball

The Kenai Central baseball team lost 15-0 to Wasilla in three innings Friday at the Kenai Little League fields in nonconference action.

The Kardinals fall to 6-3 overall.

The Warriors scored five in the first, four in the second and six in the third. Kenai had two hits — from Owen Whicker and Kalani Beddow.

Palmer 22, Homer 5

The visiting Moose erupted for 13 runs in the top of the seventh inning in the Northern Lights Conference win over the Mariners on Friday.

Homer is 1-6 in the league and 1-7 overall.

Errors were costly in the game. Camden Wise worked 6 1-3 innings for Homer and gave up 13 runs on 10 hits, but only four of the runs were earned.

Mylan Johnson was 2 for 3 for the Mariners, while Henry Wedvick was 2 for 3, and Weston Marley had two runs.

Saturday baseball

The Wasilla baseball team defeated Soldotna 4-2 in Saturday nonconference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Warriors move to 15-3 overall, while the Stars fall to 7-5.

Both Wasilla head coach Ken Ottinger and Soldotna head coach Ken Gibson came away happy their squads used the nonconference contest to get better.

The Warriors were able to finish sweeping a three-game road trip to the Kenai Peninsula with the victory Saturday.

Palmer 15, Kenai 2

The Kardinals dropped a Northern Lights Conference game in five innings Saturday at the Kenai Little League fields to fall to 6-3 in the league and 6-4 overall.

Palmer scored three in the first, four in the third and eight in the fifth. The Kards got their two runs in the fifth.

Braden Smith and Everett Chamberlain had the hits for Kenai, while Owen Whicker and Chamberlain had the runs.
