Friday soccer

The regular season slate of soccer games in the Peninsula Conference wrapped up Friday in Nikiski with Soldotna sweeping the Bulldogs.

The SoHi girls won 7-0, while the Stars boys won 11-1.

The Kenai girls, at 6-0-0 in the league, and SoHi boys, at 4-0-2 in the league and 8-2-3 overall, will be the top seeds when the conference tournament starts Friday at Soldotna High School.

The Soldotna girls (4-2-0, 9-4-0) and the Kenai boys (3-1-2) are No. 2, the Homer girls (2-4-0) and the Homer boys (2-2-2) are No. 3, and the Nikiski girls (0-6-0, 2-7-1) and the Nikiski boys (0-6-0, 0-8-0) are No. 4.

Wasilla girls 3, Homer 0

The host Warriors notched a nonconference victory Friday to drop the Mariners to 5-9-0 overall.

The Mariners and host Warriors played to a nonconference tie Friday. The Mariners are 4-6-3 overall.

Lucas Story had a goal in the first half for Homer.

“We worked to connect passes throughout the whole game,” Homer coach Adam Diaz wrote in a text message. “Wasilla was playing with heart and determination. We matched that and the score reflects that as well.

“Overall, we are taking every opportunity to grow in any way while we are in the Valley.”

Saturday soccer

The host Nikiski boys soccer team defeated Redington 5-4 on Saturday to secure the program’s first win since 2019.

The nonconference triumph puts Nikiski’s record at 1-8-0.

Palmer girls 0, Homer 0

The visiting Mariners finished the regular season 5-9-1 with the nonconference tie on Saturday.

Mally Im had the shutout in net for Homer.

Palmer boys 6, Homer 1

The Mariners finished their regular season 4-7-3 with a nonconference loss at Palmer on Saturday.

The Homer goal came from Niko Sulczynski, assisted by Lucas Story.

The Mariners played in the Valley on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

“The team played tough,” Homer coach Adam Diaz wrote in a text message. “We used what energy was left from the previous games the days before and we played until the end.

“We are all looking forward to the first game at regions. We gotta ‘takeoff’ at regions.”
