Upcoming events:

Hockey: The Homer High School hockey team will compete in the North Star Conference Championships at Soldonta High School over the weekend.

Cross-country skiing: The Nordic ski team host the Homer Invite this weekend, Friday and Saturday, at the Lookout Trails. Action starts at 2 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Girls Basketball:The Lady Mariners will play Nikiski in an away game on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Boys Basketball: The boys varsity basketball team will play Nikiski in an away game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Basketball: Here’s a snapshot of the myriad basketball games that took place over last weekend:

The host Grace Christian Grizzlies notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Lady Mariners on Friday, 37-30.

Grace Christian took down the Mariner boys for a Southcentral Conference victory Friday, 61-35.

Ninilchik boys 71, Kodiak ESS 41

The Ninilchik Wolverines rolled to a Peninsula Conference victory Friday over Kodiak ESS, 71-41.

Ninilchik’s Garrett Koch contributed 25 points, and the team got 13 from George Nelson and 12 from Jake Clark.

On Saturday, the visiting Wolverines girls team earned a Peninsula Conference game against CIA Saturday, 26-13. DeeAnn White had 12 points for Ninilchik.

Back to the boys, the Wolverines defeated the CIA Eagles on Saturday as well, 65-16. For Ninilchik, Jake Clark had 20 points, Garrett Koch had 14 and Tristan White had 13.

Over in Seward, the host Seahawks clinched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Lady Mariners on Saturday, 48-42.

For Homer, Aliesa Cole had 16 points.

Homer boys 41, Seward 30

The boys turned out victorious against Seward, taking a Southcentral Conference win for Homer on Saturday, 41-30. Homer’s Jordan Beachy had 23 points, including six 3-pointers.

The girls and boys varsity basketball teams faced off against Soldotna High School on Tuesday for an endowment game at home in the Alice Witte Gymnasium. The Stars were able to topple both teams.

Cross-country skiing:

The Homer High School Nordic ski team traveled to the Tsalteshi Trails in Soldotna last Friday for the Kenai Klassic, and to Seward on Saturday for the Seward Invitational. Here’s how Homer skiers placed in those events:

Hockey: The Homer hockey team slid into a narrow victory over Kenai Central High School last Thursday with just 11.7 seconds left on the clock. It was the last home game of the season, and senior night.
