An environmental assessment of the dump that may be turned into a new city softball park is on hold after one of the bidding firms has suggested the city may be going about the park project the wrong way.

After the dust settled from the final 24 hours of legislative wrangling in Juneau, it appears Homer made out like a bandit, getting virtually every penny it asked for. The Alaska Legislature adjourned Tuesday morning after approving $1.5 million for a deepwater dock, $2.7 million for the Homer-Kachemak sewer improvements and $150,000 for renovations to the local Kenai Peninsula College building.

The story of the Coal Point Development Corporation, formed by the community to rebuild the local economy after the 1964 earthquake, appears to be coming to a happy ending. Having seen to the rebuilding of Alaskan Seafoods, the corporation is now dissolving, and returning local residents' investments with interest.
