Homer hockey falls to Kodiak

The Bears beat out the Mariners in both conference games last weekend.

The Homer hockey team travelled to Kodiak last weekend for conference play.

The Mariners lost both games against the Bears — 4-1 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday. They are now 0-2 overall.

Head coach Spencer Warren said via text Monday that the start of a season “can be a grind,” with having only practices and no games for many weeks. Still, he wrote that it was great to get out and compete for the first time after a long summer break.

“I’m very proud of my team and how they played this weekend,” Warren wrote. “We had a lot of younger classmen that really stepped it up and I’m excited to see how they develop.”

Homer High School will host the End of the Road Shootout this weekend, starting Thursday and going through Saturday.

“Now that we’ve had some competition, I know what we need to work on to be ready for the tournament this weekend here in Homer!” Warren said.

On Thursday, SoHi will play Houston at 2:30 p.m. at the Kevin Bell Arena. Kodiak will play Kenai at 5 p.m., and Homer will play Colony at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, SoHi will play Colony at 2:30 p.m., followed by Kenai versus Houston at 5 p.m. Homer will face Kodiak again at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Homer will face Houston at 9 a.m. Colony and Kodiak will face off at 11:30 a.m., followed by Kenai versus SoHi at 2 p.m.
