Over 130 Salmonfest attendees race in annual 5K

On Saturday morning, 138 Salmonfest attendees gathered for the 3rd Annual Great Salmon Run. The 5K fun run is hosted by Thrive Ninilchik, a local nonprofit geared towards creating a healthy community through “the transformative power of dance, art, music, and athletics.” Profits from the annual race entries go toward supporting Ninilchik youth programming.

In addition to first-, second-, and third-place awards and medals, gift certificates were given out for those wearing fun and creative costumes. Notably, one group completed the 5K on raised stilts, towering over the other runners as they gathered at the finish line, music resounding in the hills as that night’s headliners, The Revivalists, completed a sound check on the River Stage Amphitheater.

Thrive Ninilchik wrote in an email on Monday that they wanted to thank all the sponsors of the event, including Breeze Designs in Ninilchik, for designing this year’s T-shirt, and ARCHES Alaska staff Jim Stearns, Hannah Stearns, David Stearns, and Jack Money for their help in bringing the annual fun run to life. Thrive Ninilchik stated that they look forward to returning next year and continuing to improve the event, with the dream of having musicians someday serenade participating runners “at every mile.”
