Homer girls place 7th in Anchorage wrestling tournament
The Homer High School boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams travelled to Anchorage last weekend, Dec. 5-6, for the ninth annual Grizzly Shakedown Wrestling Tournament, hosted by Grace Christian.
The Homer girls’ team placed seventh overall. Individual placers include Saorise Cook and Phoebe Lang in first; Araya Andres in second; Christabelle Minke in third; and Flora Fitzpatrick in fourth.
Homer will host the Kachemak Conference Wrestling Championship tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Hockey splits victories in nonconference play
The Homer Mariners varsity hockey team hosted Tri-Valley School and Palmer High School last weekend in nonconference and conference play, respectively.
The Homer team split victories with Tri-Valley, losing 5-6 as the Vikings scored a last-second goal at the end of last Thursday’s game, but coming back Friday with an 8-5 win.
Sophomore Austin Pitzman was selected as Homer’s “Player of the Game” for the Dec. 4 match against Tri-Valley. Senior Ali Gall was named Player of the Game for Friday’s match against Tri-Valley.
Homer fell 14-2 to Palmer in conference play on Saturday, Dec. 6. The Mariners are now 1-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
The Mariners will host Kenai on Friday at 7 p.m., and SoHi for the Carlin Cup on Saturday at 11 a.m.
