BEST CRAFTY GET-TOGETHER BET: Homer Council on the Arts hosts a free monthly coffee and craft community event for people of all ages and abilities to create and explore new artistic mediums. By providing the space and tools to the public free of charge, they hope to encourage artists to experiment and share their knowledge while creating connections. BEST COMMUNITY INFORMATION MEETING BET: The City of Homer will host a community information meeting regarding the status and future of the Homer Education and Recreation Center, or HERC, on Tuesday, May 20 at 6 p.m. in the Homer Public Library Fireplace Lounge. Special guests will include staff from the State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Brownfields Program; consultants from environmental consulting firm BGES, Inc., who have been hired by the state to conduct hazardous material testing; and a facilitator from the Center for Creative Land Recycling. Join in the discussion on the Brownfields program, challenges and what is happening now at the HERC. BEST PLANT AND YARD SALE BET: May is Alaska Native Plant month! Stop by the Pratt Museum on Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their annual plant sale and yard sale fundraisers. The museum garden crew will be present while you shop native plants and other lovely perennials to answer any and all questions about how to care for your chosen plants. Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Pratt’s botanical garden improvements and programming.
