Cooperative Extension Service
Sometimes we open up food products to find the surprise of uninvited guests wiggling in what we had hoped to consume. These insects and their larvae are grouped into what is called “pantry pests” and they inhabit flours, grains, pastas, nuts, pet foods, hides and much more. What do we do about these unwelcome visitors? How do we evict them after they have spread into the home? Your local Cooperative Extension Service can assist you with identification and control options. Start with its free publication titled “Pantry Pests.” The publication is available online at www.uaf.edu/ces/districts/kenai/. Print copies are available at the Cooperative Extension Office at 43961 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Suite A, Soldotna, open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information, call 907-262-5824.
