Homer High School choir to produce “Singin’ in the Rain” for annual musical

The show will run March 21, 22.

Homer High School has announced that this year’s high school musical production will be “Singin’ in the Rain.” The spring musical is an annual community collaboration spearheaded by the Homer High School choral program and its current choir director, Kyle Schneider. Productions the program has staged in recent years include “Newsies” in 2023 and “West Side Story” in 2018.

Schneider said Monday that choosing a show is quite a journey in itself.

“We start with anywhere between 40 and 50 (shows) on our list and make our decisions based on the cast that we can assemble out of the group we have,” he said. “The decision to do ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ was possible because we have as many dancers this year as we do.”

Jennifer Norton of Pier One Theatre will stage direct the show, along with several collaborating choreographers including Maura Jones and Laura Ground. The production will also include a live, volunteer orchestra of around 20 local musicians, led by Schneider as music director.

Performances will be held March 21 at 7 p.m. and March 22 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Homer Mariner Theatre. Tickets will be available to purchase in advance, beginning in March.
