Homer students prep for prom

Homer High School prom took place on Saturday, April 15 at Land’s End on the Homer Spit.

Ahead of the event, members of the junior class on Saturday were busy decorating the upstairs banquet room after an early release from school. The theme for the year, chosen by the junior class student council, was a “masquerade,” with streamers draping the walls and ceiling in black, gold, silver, purple and dark blue.

During the setup, some students focused on the streamers while others set up the tables and photo booth.

Student council president Spencer Co’s first task for set up was to prepare a few tree decorations.

“We ordered a lot of stuff for prom and then we also have a large repertoire of decorations available at the school that the student council has accumulated over the year for various events and all the dances,” Co said.

Social Studies and Natural Resources teacher Kendra Nelson is the junior class advisor and helped the council coordinate other details for the event. There are three other teachers who serve as advisors but Nelson has participated in prom preparation in several other years and took the leadership role this year.

Prom king and queen for 2023 were Lars Pleznac and Nevaeh Diaz.
