Comp plan project managers launch website, plan 1st public outreach event

Community open house scheduled for March 28

Homer community members can expect to begin engaging with the comprehensive plan revisions very soon.

At their last regular meeting on March 4, the comprehensive plan steering committee discussed with Agnew::Beck project consultants Shelly Wade and Meg Friedenauer plans for the upcoming inaugural public outreach event and the Homer Comprehensive Plan Update website, which recently went live.

Agnew::Beck’s first community visit to Homer will take place during the week of March 25-29, with an evening Community Open House event scheduled for Thursday, March 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center.

At this open house, Agnew::Beck intends to introduce the planning process and gather initial input on the community’s vision for Homer’s future, according to the comp plan update website.

During this first community visit, community members will be invited to participate in a survey. Throughout the week, Agnew::Beck also plans to meet in person with city staff and the comp plan steering committee, conduct stakeholder interviews and organizational presentations, and hold informal “sharing and feedback” activities with community members at various local establishments.

A Guiding Growth conversation is currently scheduled for Tuesday, March 26 from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a joint work session with the city council and Planning Commission from 3-4:50 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m., Agnew::Beck will also give a presentation at the Port and Harbor Advisory Commission regular meeting.

The full draft community visit schedule can be found in the comp plan steering committee agenda packet online at www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/ct/comprehensive-plan-steering-committee-regular-meeting-0.

The second community visit is currently scheduled for the end of April.

The new Comprehensive Plan Update website is available at homercompplanupdate.com/. Community members should watch this site for information and schedule updates, and are invited to share feedback at any time through the “Contact Us” portal near the bottom of the page. The 2018 comp plan is also available for viewing through the website.

The comp plan update website is an iterative resource and will be continuously updated throughout the course of the comp plan rewrite.

Find more information about the comprehensive plan rewrite, including the updated public participation plan, in the steering committee agenda packet at www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/ct/comprehensive-plan-steering-committee-regular-meeting-0.

The next steering committee meeting will be held on Monday, March 18 in the Homer City Hall Cowles Council Chambers.
