Police seek information on woman found dead in Kenai

The Kenai Police Department is seeking additional information about a deceased woman found Friday near Haller Street and the Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai.

The department identified the woman as 46-year-old Margaret Anvil, of Anchorage, in a Monday dispatch. No obvious signs of foul play were revealed during an investigation of the scene, the dispatch said. Anvil’s body was transferred to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy and next of kin have been notified, the dispatch said.

As reported by the Anchorage Daily News, Anvil was sentenced in 2006 to 20 years in prison for the murder of a Napaskiak village police officer in 2005. A separate story by the paper in 2016 quoted Anvil, who was serving time at the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, as saying she expected to be released the following year.

Investigators believe that Anvil was in the Kenai area “for about a week” and would like to hear from anyone who may have additional information about Anvil or who may have had contact with her while she was in the area. Any additional information can be provided to the Kenai Police Department at 907-283-7879.
