Soldotna resident Ronald J. Wilson, known by friends as “Chappy,” died Feb. 17, 2018, at South Peninsula Hospital in the Long Term Care unit in Homer. He was 94 years old.

No services are planned.

He was born on June 12, 1923 in the London borough of Hackney, England. Ron was an avid golfer at the Kenai Golf Course and managed to walk 18 holes of golf four times a week until he was 87 years old. Ron and his wife, Dorothy, spent many years in Massachusetts and Maine, along with time in Florida. He moved to Soldotna in 1999 from Ocala, Florida, with Dorothy, who preceded him in death in 2005.

Ron was a service director for dealerships before his retirement. He served in the Royal Air Force as an airplane mechanic, and he later enlightened his family with stories of World War II, chasing Rommel through the desert and praising Winston Churchill. Ron became an American citizen in 1985.

He came from a family of three brothers and one sister. One of the brothers, Arnold, is living in Texas.

He leaves behind a daughter, Margaret Dahl of Ocala, Florida; a son, Ronald Wilson of Cape Coral, Florida; two step-daughters, Lois Brassfield of Soldotna and Patricia Fromm of Ocala, Florida; two step-sons, Wayne Moulton of Vero Beach, Florida, and Richard Moulton of Tennessee; four children, John, Catherine, Theresa and Paul Wilson, all of England; and 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He will be missed by all.
