Homer softball finishes 0-7-1 at Sitka tourney

The Homer softball team finished 0-7-1 at the Sitka Softball Tournament to open the season.

After losing to Sitka 10-0 and Thunder Mountain 16-2 on Thursday, the Mariners lost to Palmer 8-7, Ketchikan 17-2 and Juneau-Douglas: Yadaa.at Kale 11-1 on Friday. Saturday, Homer lost to Sitka 13-0, Thunder Mountain 14-1 and tied North Pole 7-7.

Friday’s loss to Palmer came in three innings.

Alaiyah Brost was 2 for 2 with two runs and three RBIs, Becca Trowbridge was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Emily Owens had two runs.

Trowbridge pitched an inning for Homer, giving up five runs on a hit and five walks. She struck out two. Keagan Niebuhr went 1 1-3 innings, giving up three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two.

In Friday’s loss to Ketchikan, the Kings scored 16 runs in the top of the first inning. Homer did not have any hits, but got runs from Ariana Davis and Owens.

Niebuhr went an inning and gave up 16 runs — 13 earned. She walked nine and gave up nine hits. Brenna Cox gave up an unearned run in an inning on two hits. She walked one.

Against the Crimson Bears on Friday, the game was over in 3.5 innings as Juneau scored six runs in the second and five runs in the fourth.

Owens had a hit and a run, and Brost had a hit and an RBI.

Trowbridge gave up six runs in two innings, walking four, striking out two and yielding five hits. Cox went an inning, giving up three runs — two earned — on a hit while walking two and striking out two.

Niebuhr gave up two unearned runs on a hit and a walk without recording an out.

In Saturday’s loss to Sitka, the Wolves scored five runs in the first, two runs in the second and six runs in the third. Trowbridge and Niebuhr had Homer’s two hits.

Trowbridge gave up four runs on four walks in two-thirds of an inning. Cox went 1 1-3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits and a walk. Niebuhr pitched an inning, giving up five runs — four earned — on two hits while walking four and striking out two.

In Saturday’s loss to Thunder Mountain, the Mariners led 1-0 after the top of the first, but the Falcons scored nine in the first, three in the second and two in the third.

Trowbridge had a hit and an RBI for Homer, while Charlotte Fraley had a run and Davis added a hit.

Niebuhr gave up nine runs on seven hits in an inning, also walking three. Cox yielded five runs on four hits and four walks in 1 2-3 innings.

Against North Pole, the Mariners scored four runs in the top of the fourth for a tie.

Davis was 2 for 3 with a run, Brost was 2 for 2 with a run and three RBIs, Owens was 2 for 2 and Lexy Sweeney had two runs.

Trowbridge went all three innings, giving up seven runs — one earned — on four hits and six walks. She also struck out four.
