The host Soldotna baseball team defeated Homer 12-6 on Monday in Northern Lights Conference action at the Soldotna Little League fields.

The Stars improved to 5-1 in the league and 8-2 overall, while the Mariners are 2-3 and 3-5.

The game was tied at 1 until the bottom of the fifth, when the Stars broke loose for six runs. Homer came back with five runs in the top of the sixth, but the Stars answered with five in the bottom of the sixth.

Derrick Jones worked the first five innings for the Stars, giving up six runs — five earned — on seven hits while walking three and striking out nine. Brett Hostetler went the final two innings, keeping the Mariners scoreless while allowing a hit and a walk, and striking out three.

Weston Marley held off the SoHi offense for most of the game, but ended up yielding 11 runs — nine earned — on 12 hits while walking one and striking out four. Preston Stanislaw recorded the final out while giving up an unearned run.

Andrew Pieh feasted at the plate for the Stars, getting a double, home run, scoring two runs and knocking in four runs.

Also for SoHi, Colby Sturman was 2 for 3 with two runs, Wyatt Gagnon was 2 for 4 with two runs, Hostetler was 2 for 4 and Tucker Blough was 2 for 4.

For Homer, CJ Burns was 2 for 4 and Camden Wise was 2 for 4 with two runs.
