Upcoming events

Cross-country skiing: Homer’s ski team will compete in the Government Peak Nordic Ski Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11 at the Government Peak Nordic Trails.

Girls basketball: The Lady Mariners will travel to Kenai for an away game at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 against Kenai Central High School. The team then returns to host Seward High School at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Homer High School.

Boys basketball: The boys varsity basketball team is scheduled to compete in the ACS Pepsi Basketball Invitational Thursday, Jan. 2 through Saturday, Jan. 4 in Anchorage. Then, the boys team will play Kenai Central High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 in Kenai. The boys will then return to Homer to play Seward High School at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 in the Alice Witte Gymnasium.

Hockey: The Homer hockey team will host teams from the Mat-Su Valley at the Kevin Bell Arena for a weekend full of games Jan. 9-11. The Mariners start by playing Palmer at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, and will then play Colony at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10 and Houston at noon on Saturday, Jan. 11

Cross-country skiing:

Results have been calculated for the annual Ski Your Age event, which was held this year on Dec. 26 at the Ohlson Mountain Lookout Trails.

Hosted by Homer High School, the event is a fundraiser. Participants are encouraged to ski the same number of kilometers as their age, or as many kilometers as they want. This year, 42 skiers braved the elements to participate.

Results are as follows:

Most over all kilometers skied: Mike Gracz, 31.2 km

Family Challenge: The Clemens Family, 46.5. David Clemens, 13 km; Kara Clemens, 12 km; Sylvia Clemens, 7 km; Clyde Clemens, 14.5 km.

Skied their age:

Autumn Daigle, 17 km; Caleb Rauch, 21 km; Zoe Stonorov, 17 km; Hannah Stonorov, 15 km; Jacob Davis, 20 km; Sidney Flora, 14 km; Rocco Flora, 14 km; Clyde Clemens, 14.5 km, Denver Waclaski 20 km.
