Upcoming events

Volleyball: The Homer Jamboree starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Alice Witte Gymnasium.

Cross-country: The boys and girls cross-country teams will compete at the Tsalteshi Meet in Soldotna on Saturday starting at noon.

Football: The Mariners will face off against Kenai Central High School in the first home game of the season at 6 p.m. at Homer High School.

Homer high’s football team took a loss in their season opener last weekend in Kodiak, with the Bears coming out on top 56-15. Full results and stats are as follows:

The Homer and Kodiak cross-country teams split a dual meet last Saturday at Fort Abercrombie in Kodiak.

Homer did not have enough runners to field a full boys team, and Kodiak won the boys meet 15-0. Homer’s Clayton Beachy led his team by finishing third at 19:46, though he was an unattached runner because he did not have enough practices to compete, the Peninsula Clarion reported.

The Homer girls won their dual meet 17-41. They blocked out the top three spots in the girls race: Brooke Miller took first at 21 minutes, 42 seconds, Katia Holmes took second at 22:21 and Fiona Patton placed third at 22:34.
