Local volunteer earns doctorate

Jonathan Richar of Trapper Creek graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Graduate School of Fisheries and Ocean Science in Juneau, with a doctorate in fisheries on May 4.
During the past two years, Richar did volunteer work with the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve and the Pratt Museum in Homer, where he collected live specimen for their aquarium under their special permit and received a lot of encouragement and mentoring.
In years past, he also volunteered on a Japanese research ship and a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship in the Bering Sea. The North Pacific Research Board and Rasmuson Foundation funded his graduate studies.
