Wrestling season begins; Kings field large squad

Club wrestling started off strong with a small group of dedicated Anchor King wrestlers traveling to Soldotna for the Soldotna Whalers Freestyle tournament. Fourteen wrestlers went to compete.

First place finishes were awarded to Justus Grimes, Blake Newman, Wayne Newman and Kyle Wells. CJ Burns took home a second place finish with a fall in 1:23 over a Soldotna wrestler. Alana Crane, Miles Tressler, Carter Woodhead and Saoirse Cook all took home third place finishes. In the girls bracket Alysha Nyvall won second place and Saoirse Cook earned a third place finish The fastest pin for the Anchor King Wrestlers was Miles Tressler with a pin over a Marathon Wrestling Club wrester in 11 seconds. Other wrestlers who attended the meet and are showing great improvement included Parker Overson, Jeremy Russell and Aiden Crane.

This season has started off early and with a bang. There are almost 50 registered wresters on the team this year ranging from 5 years old to 17.

“I am really impressed with the turnout this year to support our club, especially the number of girls we have competing out here this year,” said Coach Bubba Wells,

The next big tournament for Anchor King wrestlers will be the Popeye Tournament March 10 and 11.
