Rachel Evelyn Gannaway

A celebration of life for Rachel Evelyn Gannaway is 5 p.m. May 10, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge, 215 Jenny Way. “We will be gathering together to celebrate the loving spirit of Rachel with her family and friends,” her family said.

Rachel Gannway died Nov. 3, 2013, in Anchorage. A full obituary ran in the Nov. 7, 2013, Homer News.

Ramona Lee Tucker

Ramona Lee Tucker died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. A celebration of life is at 2 p.m. May 4, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge.

“She was loved by many in Homer, Portland and elsewhere. All who knew her are invited to attend,” her family said. “She will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her wit, charm and winning smile.”

Tammy Reeve

Kasilof resident Tammy Reeve, 49, died April 12, 2014. 

A viewing was 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. After the viewing, a celebration of life was held from 7:15-9 p.m. April 15, 2014, at 47202 Princeton Ave,, Hope Community Resources Center in Soldotna. Funeral services were held at noon Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seward, with a small viewing at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Albert Greer

Homesteader and longtime Homer resident, Mr. Albert Greer, 90, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage.

Funeral services were held at noon Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Glacier View Baptist Church, 960 East End Road in Homer. Pastor Rick Wise officiated. Burial followed at the Hickerson Memorial Park on Diamond Ridge Road.

Dorothy (Corcoran) Moore

Dorothy Ellen Moore, 89, died peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2014.  

Dorothy Ellen Moore was born July 17, 1924, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Mary Ellen Corcoran. She grew up in Denver and graduated from South High. She married Harvey Elvin Moore on Aug.19, 1947. They raised their three children in the Denver area. Dorothy was a stay-at-home Mom until she went to work at the Denver U.S. Geological Survey in the 1970s. After living in Colorado and Nebraska, Harvey and Dorothy moved to Homer in 2004.

Aaron Rael-Catholic

Aaron Rael-Catholic, 24, died April 2, 2014, in Homer. Aaron was born Jan. 27, 1990, in Denver, Colo. A celebration of life and barbecue potluck is at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Bishop’s Beach. Bring a dish to be shared with friends.

“His bright smile and sparkling eyes will be missed by all who knew him. Please join us in a celebration of his life. Bring a favorite memory or a story to share,” his family said. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Kristina ‘Kris’ L. Bettes

Kristina “Kris” L. Bettes, 49, of Winnie, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, after an intense, year-long battle with cancer. She was born July 9, 1964, to Jeanne Allen and Clifford Calkins, in Denver, Colo. She had been a resident of the Winnie area for five years.

Robert ‘Bob’ P. Moore

Robert “Bob” P. Moore, 88, of Homer, Alaska passed away from Alzheimer’s disease on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Majestic View Assisted Living.

At his request, there will be no memorial service. His ashes will be spread in Florida, on the outgoing tide. 

Nelda C Wythe

Nelda C. Wythe passed away March 27, 2014, in Port Townsend, Wash. She was born March 25, 1936, in Terre Haute, Ind., and moved to Homer with her parents and brother in 1945. She graduated from Homer High School in 1954. She attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, the University of Washington and Clairmont College in California.  She taught school in Fairbanks and was also a teacher/administrator in Anchorage.

Upon retiring she and companion Doris Sarrio moved to Port Townsend, Wash. 

Anthony W. Hickey

Anthony Wayne Hickey, 50, died March 14, 2014, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born June 4, 1963, in Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was a former Homer resident who worked for Maritime Helicopters.

He is survived by his daughters, Chelsea Hickey and Breanna Gari of Cumberland, Maine; and his parents, Bill and Patty Hickey of Kerrville, Texas.

“To all my family and friends, I’ve traveled the world and now I am traveling the Heavens. Happy trails to you wherever you go, be it land, sea or air, until we meet again,” Hickey said in a final message.

Douglas A. Lien

Dr. Douglas Allen Lien, 63, died March 1, 2014, in Anchorage. “He took his final flight,” his family said.

A celebration of life service was held 1 p.m. March 29, 2014, at Land’s End Resort, Homer.

Dr. Lien was born July 7, 1950, in Bookings. S.D., to Elizabeth and David Lien.

Dr. Lien attended South Dakota University and graduated from New York University College of Dentistry with a degree in doctor of dental surgery. In 1986 he began as a volunteer dentist at the King County Jail in Seattle.

Margaret Guldseth

Margaret Schwab Guldseth, 78, died March 23, 2014, while residing at Glenwood Place Senior Living in Vancouver, Wash. A memorial service is at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Saint Anne’s Episcopal Church in Washougal, Wash. Arrangements are provided by Brown’s Funeral Home in Camas, Wash.

Margaret was born on Oct. 23, 1935, in Cambridge, Mass., to Sarah Bradley Schwab and Norman von Post Schwab. Margaret graduated from Mount Kisco High school in Mount Kisco, N.Y. She graduated with honors in music from Bryn Mawr College. 

Connie R. Burrer

Longtime Homer resident Connie Rene Burrer, 53, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at home in Homer from metastatic breast cancer.

Memorial services were held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the American Legion Post 16 in Homer. A Catholic memorial mass will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Forrest Lake, Minn.

Connie was born Oct. 1, 1960, in Minneapolis, Minn. She graduated from Marshell U. High School. 

Connie Burrer

Longtime Alaska resident Mrs. Connie Burrer, 53, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home in Homer with her family by her side. A celebration of life is 3-5 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at The American Legion Post 16, East End Road. 

A full obituary will run at a later date. Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel & Crematory. 

Mitchell M. ‘Mike’ Stelling

Mitchell Murvin (Mike) Stelling, 53, died March 7, 2014, in Anchorage. He was born Feb. 9, 1961 in Redwood City, Calif. His family said he passed away peacefully.

A memorial service and potluck will take place 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Russian Jack Springs Chalet in Anchorage. Guests are invited to visit the Botanical Gardens and aviary near the chalet until 3 p.m.

There will be a service in Valdez this summer to spread his ashes.

Mitchell Murvin “Mike” Stelling, 53, died March 7, 2014. He was born Feb. 9, 1961, in Redwood City, Calif. Stelling has family and many friends in Homer. A memorial service and potluck will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Russian Jack Springs Chalet in Anchorage. Guests are invited to visit the Botanical Gardens and aviary near the Chalet until 3 p.m. There will be a service in Valdez this summer to spread his ashes. The family requests donations to Bean’s Café or Brother Francis Shelter in lieu of flowers, as Mike would have wished.

John L. Luzadder

John L. Luzadder, 63, died Feb. 9, 2014, with his wife Suzi at his side at their home in Homer. 

“He left this earth for more far reaching endeavors, and new stages, new gigs,” his wife said.

A celebration of life and memorial service was held  Feb. 23, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge.

John Lee Luzadder was born Aug. 14, 1950, in Fairmont, W.V., to Mary Martha Luzadder and Raymond Leo Luzadder.

Ronald W. Drathman

Ronald William Drathman, a longtime Homer resident, died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, of natural causes at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer. A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Homer Elks Lodge. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, you make a charitable donation to Little League of Homer or another project close to your heart.

Emory Franklin “Frank” Arndt

Kasilof resident Emory Franklin “Frank” Arndt, Jr., 56, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at his home.

Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds in Ninilchik. Pastor Ron Lambert will officiate. Additional services will be held in Montrose, Colo., at a later date.

Frank was born Feb. 16, 1957, in Alamosa, Colo. He graduated from Montrose High School Class of 1975. He served in the U.S. Army from 1975-80.
