Thousands lined the Kenai Spur Highway and South Willow Street on Friday for the annual Fourth of July Parade hosted by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce.
The parade featured 60 entries, including Central Peninsula Special Olympics, the Kenai Peninsula 4-H Club, Kenai Peninsula Ice Racing Association, The Glaze and more. Peggy Arness, the first director of the Kenai chamber who is set to celebrate her 100th birthday on July 14, served as grand marshal of the parade.
Festivities continued at Kenai’s Softball Greenstrip after the parade concluded, where food trucks, live music, carnival games, a dunk tank and dozens of vendors were on offer.
Parade winners, named by the chamber Friday evening, were Airport Equipment Rentals for best commercial business; the Kenai Soldotna Shrine Club for best organization; Forever Dance Alaska for best youth and John Krause for best individual.
