Several Anchor Point residents took to social media this weekend to warn of the presence of aggressive and plentiful wasps at the Anchor Point Transfer Station. Multiple residents reported wasps emerging from the trash bins and following them into their vehicles, sparking safety concerns over the potential for allergic reactions to stings.

The station, which is operated by the Kenai Peninsula Borough, is a year-round, 24/7 location for waste disposal.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Solid Waste Department said Tuesday that yellowjackets are an annual problem, especially at this time of year.
