Hear ye, hear ye — the now-annual Ye Olde Harvest Festival returns for a second year of fun and festivities. Hosted at Karen Hornaday Park by event organizers Sage Anderson and Gabrielle Damro, Homer’s Renaissance Fair will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5 from noon to 7 p.m.
Promising an “unforgettable” weekend with enchantment and merriment, the event features a variety of contests, “daring quests,” vendors, hot food, dancing demonstrations and magic. Returning this year are the free kids’ crafting area, as well as booths and activities hosted by Homer’s own Barony of IceFire Bay.
New offerings this year include a medicine walk, which Anderson said was similar to the spiral walking path that is a regular aspect of the annual Burning Basket installation; live sword demonstrations by medieval weapon study group, Zornhau Alaska; and foam sword jousting for attendees.
General admission to the fair is $10. Admission for teachers, military, seniors and kids under 12 years of age is $5.
Also part of the festivities this year is the first annual Masquerade Ball at The Kannery on Friday, Oct. 3 starting at 9:30 p.m. This event is for ages 21 and up only, and admission is $15 at the door. The ball will feature music performances by Xavilai, MultiKat and Salmonilla, as well as outdoor fire spinning performances by The Flammettes and Peninsula Flow Artists. The public is invited to decorate masks — available for purchase at the event for $5, Anderson said, with markers and gems to personalize each mask for free — and dance the night away.
Fire spinning performances will also be shown on Saturday and Sunday at the fair.
