Asaiah’s thoughtfulness lives on

Through his thoughtful donation, Brother Asaiah Bates continues to support young children and their families in the Homer area. Brother Asaiah started the Brother Asaiah Bates Fund, a field of interest fund, to benefit the children who attend Homer Head Start.

In January, 20 Homer Head Start children received individualized swimming instruction at the Kate Kuhns Aquatic Center thanks to this generous program. The 4- and 5-year-old children received four one-hour lessons where they learned basic water safety and swimming skills. We are very grateful to the parents and community volunteers, including some crew members of the USCGC Roanoke Island, who helped teach the children.  We wish to thank the Homer Foundation for administering this fund so that the wishes of Brother Asaiah will continue to impact young children in our community.
