A new, education-centered fair will be hosted in Homer next weekend.
Sage Anderson remembers growing up in Homer and said she always found it interesting to see the influx of kids coming together around mid-August every year, preparing for the incoming school year. Inspired by ways to engage the community, Anderson has created a new fair to help prepare families for the back-to-school season.
“At this point, we have several strong homeschool communities as well as the public school kids, preschools, and college,” wrote Anderson in a July 28 email. “We want to provide a space where they can all meet and people can make some good connections before the school year starts.”
For the fair, vendors will facilitate either a game or a craft activity at their booth, as a way for kids to challenge and entertain themselves. When successful with an activity, they get a signature on a provided map. Anderson said the more signatures kids have, the bigger prizes they can earn.
Nonprofit spaces are also available, and Anderson said the fair is an excellent opportunity for anybody interested in tutoring or teaching, where they can meet potential students in person. Additionally, there will be hot food vendors and other vendors prepared to help with “all sorts of back-to-school shopping.”
The Back to School Fair will be held at Karen Hornaday Park from noon to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. Those interested in securing a vending space should contact Sage Anderson at 907-299-4896.
