Captain Joshua Brooks

Captain Joshua Brooks F/V Huntress

March 12, 1976 – Oct. 11, 2021

Josh was born in Tawas City, Michigan to Richard and Susan Brooks. The family moved to Oregon when he was 3 months old and then moved to Homer, Alaska in 1984 to present. Josh passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack while vacationing in Mexico.

Josh was a born fisherman. He started fishing with his dad as soon as he could be carried in a backpack. At age 14, he deck handed on the charter boat the Sea Bear. He later commercial fished for crab, shrimp and salmon. He got his captains licence and ran the F/V Huntress for Bobs Trophy Charters. He later purchased the F/V Huntress and began his own Charter Business “Brooks Alaskan Adventures.”

If Josh did not have a charter scheduled, you could find him out fishing, crabbing often with one of his children.

Family was everything to Josh. He met the love of his life Joleen in 2012, and they have a beautiful daughter Ella. He also has two daughters from a previous marriage. He loved them all dearly.

Josh’s love of life was contagious! He loved being part of the community and charter fleet.

He is survived by his spouse, Joleen; daughters, Ceres, Hestia and Ella; parents, Richard and Susan; brother, Shane and sister-in-law Candice; and sister, Sara; two nieces, Zoey and Piper, and his nephew, Mason, all of Homer.

Memorial is scheduled Nov. 7, 2021 at 1 p.m. to start at the Seafarer Memorial. All are welcomed to join with a Celebration of life at Bald Mountain Air Hanger until 4 p.m.
