Long-time Alaskan resident John William Hangstefer IV, 65, died Feb. 3, 2016, at Riverside Assisted Living in Soldotna from complications from diabetes. There will be a memorial service for John by the Anchor Point VFW. Flyers will be posted around the area later with the date and time. Rest in Peace John. He was born Aug 16, 1950, in Seattle to John and Rita Hangstefer. He moved with his family to Kodiak in 1961. John joined the U.S. Army in December 1968 and served in the Vietnam War.
He was known as “Big John” and was a caring, gentle person, loved by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Vicki Stratman Hangstefer; his sister Patricia (Hangstefer) Simeonoff, and his father, John William Hangstefer III.
He is survived by his mother, Rita Hangstefer of Idaho; sister, Judy (Hangstefer) Triebe of Illinois; brother, Eric Hangstefer of Idaho; sister, Barbara (Hangstefer) Snodgrass of Washington; and his daughter, Tami Rose Hangstefer.
