17 compete in Eveline 5K

An inaugural 5K fun run along the trails at Eveline State Recreation Site was hosted by Kachemak Bay Running Club this past weekend. Seventeen runners and walkers competed in the event on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Organizer Jack Wiles said in an email that runners enjoyed the view of Kachemak Bay along Old East End with “its backdrop of mountains, glaciers and a feeling of tranquility from the setting.”

Despite cloudy skies and the impending threat of rain, Wiles said the sun broke through several times over the course of the race and called Eveline State Recreation Site ”the best show in town,” with its annual wildflower show currently in “peak form.”

Wiles said runners and walkers alike marveled at the presence of chocolate lilies and fireweed coming on strong “as the lupines begin to fade.”
