48 run for recovery

More than a hundred others gathered in support.

On Saturday, more than 100 community members gathered at the Deep Water Dock on the Homer Spit for the 3rd Run for Recovery, an annual fun run hosted by Kachemak Bay Recovery Connection.

Top finishers of the race included Andrew Peters, who won both overall and for the men with a finish time of 17:38. Alec McLaughlin was close on his heels, with a finish time of 18:17.1

For the women, Britni Siekaniec was first to complete the race in 20 minutes and 58 seconds, followed by Hayley Hughes and Lindsey Martin.

The run was a fundraiser for the Recovery Connection, which works to provide supportive services, including peer support and recovery resources, to those dealing with substance use disorder on the lower Kenai Peninsula.

At an Aug. 25 Homer City Council meeting, Mayor Rachel Lord recognized the organization’s work in a mayoral proclamation and encouraged Homer residents to participate in celebrating September as National Recovery Month.
