Last place Teachers beat Riptide

In week 9 of city league basketball, the Best Western Riptide lost its first game to the last team in the league, the K-12 Teachers by a score of 51-48. Austin McAvoy scored a team high 23 followed by Keith Presley’s 9 points for the Riptide. K-12’s Mark Putney dropped 24 while Paul Story also added 9 points. Edan Badajos scored 14 points and Dyllan Day scored 12 but the Bulletproof Nets still fell short to the shorthanded Home Run Oil Titans 51-48. Eric Tutt and Mark Edens combined for 28 points in the victory. The Gregoire Construction Smooth Operators gave up their fourth quarter lead to ABI, backed behind Joshua Veldstra’s 16 points. However, the Smooth Ops were able to come back and secure the victory in the end, winning 44-42. Fifteen points came from Heath Johnson as Dave Drake and Robby Brymer also combined for 9 more in a nail biter.

Watch the Mariners play

There’s a lot of Mariner action this weekend:

• The boys varsity basketball team participates in the SoHi Tipoff beginning today and going through Saturday.

• The girls and boys JV basketball teams travel to play Lumen Christi today through Saturday.

• The JV hockey team plays the Bantams beginning at 5:15 p.m. today at the Kevin Bell ice rink. The teams match up again Saturday at 5 p.m. at the rink.

• The Mariner cross country ski team is scheduled to host the Homer Invitational on Saturday.
