Softball

Homer 7, Houston 3

The host Homer softball team swept Houston on Wednesday to improve to 7-3 overall.

The Mariners won the first game 16-4 in four innings. Homer led 5-3 after the second inning and 12-3 after the third.

Zoe Adkins went the distance for the Mariners, giving up four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

Grace Godfrey was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs, while Hannah Hatfield was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two runs. Also for Homer, Haylee Owen had three runs, Delilah Harris had two runs, Adkins had two runs and Kahleah Fraley had two runs.

Homer took the second game 22-4 in five innings. Houston was the home team on the scoreboard, with Homer leading 3-2 after the first, 8-2 after the second, 13-3 after the third and 13-4 after the fourth.

Adkins again went the distance, allowing four runs — two earned — on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Harris was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and three runs while Godfrey was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and five runs.

Also for Homer, Hatfield was 2 for 4 with three runs, Owen had four runs, Ariana Davis was 2 for 4 with two runs, Adkins was 2 for 3, Sophie Ellison was 2 for 4 with two runs and Julie Guess had two runs.

Baseball

The Soldotna baseball team dropped to 5-6 overall with a 13-2 nonconference loss to Colony on Saturday in 4 1-2 innings.

The Knights led 5-0 after the first, 7-0 after the second, 7-2 after the third and 13-2 after the fifth.

Colony was able to bang out 10 hits in four innings against Soldotna pitchers Jacob Belger and Daltyn Deborski.

At the plate for Soldotna, Belger and Atticus Gibson scored the runs, Deborski and Andrew Pieh had the hits and Riley Johnson had an RBI.

Wasilla 11, Soldotna 0

The host Warriors scored six in the first inning and five in the second to take command season in the game, which went 4 1-2 innings. The Stars are 5-5.

Evan Dahlen went all five innings for the Warriors and only gave up hits to Levi Mickelson and Josh Pieh.

The Warriors got to SoHi starter Andrew Pieh early, but Josh Pieh came in and worked three innings, giving up a run on two hits while walking one.

Grace Christian 6, Homer 4

The host Grizzlies dropped the Mariners to 1-5 in Southcentral Conference play and 1-10 overall.

In the top of the first inning, Homer had the bases loaded with nobody out and didn’t score. Homer coach Rich Sonnen said that foreshadowed a frustrating game to come.

Harrison Metz pitched all six innings and gave up three hits and two walks while striking out eight, but errors hurt Homer as only two of the runs were earned.

Metz went 4 for 4 with two RBIs, while Austin Ceccarelli was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Gabe Dash and Malachi Raymond had hits.

In the seventh, Homer had the tying run on second but was unable to advance that runner.

Wasilla 16, Homer 1

The visiting Mariners dropped to 1-11 with the nonconference loss to the Warriors in one inning before the mercy rule kicked in Saturday.

Austin Ceccarelli had the run for Homer, while Josiah Raymond had the RBI. Harrison Metz was 1 for 1.
