Marilyn Wythe obituary.

Marilyn Jean Wythe

Jan. 25, 1957 – Aug. 5, 2022

Longtime Homer resident Marilyn Jean Wythe, 65, passed away Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

Marilyn was born Jan. 25, 1957, in Reno, Nev. She moved to Alaska in 1962 and graduated from Homer High School.

Marilyn worked for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District for many years as a secretary, where she touched the lives of many children. She retired from Homer Middle School in 2021.

Marilyn enjoyed many things. She was an avid gardener. Her pride and joy was her high tunnel where she was able to grow Black Gold Cherries and Honey Crisp Apples. She had a green thumb, growing numerous fruits and veggies, most proudly her corn. She gave away the majority of what she grew to family, friends, and the food pantry. She enjoyed having young children come over to pick cherries in the spring. Watching children pick cherries truly warmed her heart saying, “Kids in Alaska don’t get the opportunity to pick cherries off a tree!” She also loved picking blueberries every year. One year with the help of her family, she picked nearly 200 pounds. As teenager, Marilyn enjoyed horseback riding with her sister, a passion she passed on to her daughter and as an adult finally owned her first horse, Indy. Marilyn also discovered and excelled at Nose Work, a dog sport. Marilyn enjoyed taking her beagles Chief and Rosie to class each week, even winning ribbons with Rosie.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, James and Georgina Weaver, and a son, Joseph.

She is survived by her spouse, Chris Wythe of Homer; son, Daryl Wythe (Jack) of Olympia, Wash.; daughter, Danielle Wythe of Homer; sister, Donna Weaver of Sun City, Fla.; brother, Jim Weaver (Sue) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her nieces and nephews, Ryan, Chad, Jared, Brandon, Deanna, Katelyn, Kevin, Brad and Becca.

In lieu of flowers, please send any fond memories the family can cherish to P.O. Box 452, Homer, AK 99603.
