Shay Seed Lowney

Shay Seed Lowney

July 6 1971 – Aug. 29, 2018

Shay Seed Lowney, 47, died on Aug. 29, 2018 in Homer.

“It is with heavy heart that we share the passing of Shay Seed Lowney, 47, who died from complications of a recent illness,” her family wrote.

Shay was the Chief Financial Officer of South Peninsula Haven House, a nonprofit woman’s shelter providing services to women and children impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. Being a victim of domestic violence herself, Shay found her passion in supporting victims.

Shay was a single mother of three beautiful children, Parker, 15, Thatcher, 13, and Channing, 11, whom she raised with compassion and grace. They were her world and she made it a truly loving and special place. Shay loved admiring and protecting the ocean, primarily whales, was an avid diver and oceanography major at University of Tampa in Florida.

Shay was a spirited woman with an inspiring smile and an energy that was hard to match. As an active member of the Homer community, she impacted and enriched so many lives while serving on PTA and PTO’s for all Homer area schools, leading Girl Scout Troup #226, a member of 100 Women Making a Difference, Nutcracker parent, and so much more. If there was ever a woman who could simultaneously take on the challenges of business, family and community, and still come back for more, it was Shay.

She is survived by children, Parker, Thatcher and Channing; grandparents, Douglas and Joyce Lowney, and Jane McQuide; mother, Karin Lowney-Seed; step-father, Peter Seed; biological father, Kevin McQuide; sisters, Seson Kahn and Lydia Seed; brother, Kyle McQuide; niece, Myla Kahn; and numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her children have a great support system going forward. Her aunt and uncle, Deb Lowney and Dr. Ralph Broshes, were Shay’s closest family members in Homer and have lovingly taken them under their wings as guardians. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, caring individuals can contribute to the children’s college funds at gofundme.com/shay039s-memorial-fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at the Elks Lodges in Homer.
