The three incumbent Homer City Council members were sworn in for another term on Monday during the regular council meeting, following the certification of official election results.
Council members Jason Davis and Storm Hansen will each serve three more years on the council before being up for reelection once more in October 2028.
Council member Bradley Parsons will serve one more year before his seat is again up for reelection in October 2026.
Following Election Day last Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Homer canvass board convened on Oct. 10 to count all absentee-in-person or by-mail ballots, question ballots and special needs ballots. According to the official results, this year’s city election saw 1,358 voters, with 940 voting in person at their designated precinct on Election Day and 398 voting by absentee ballot, 16 by special needs ballot and four by question ballot.
There are 5,478 total registered City of Homer voters as of Sept. 7. Thus, voter turnout for the October election was 25%.
The election for a one-year term candidate saw 1,304 total votes. The winning candidate is required to receive 40% of the total vote to be elected.
Parsons had 799 votes, or 61%. Challenger Michael Jones had 495 votes, or 38%. There were also 10 write-ins, equalling 1% of the total vote.
The election for two three-year term candidates saw 2,390 total votes cast. The winning candidates are required to receive at least 20% of the vote to be elected.
Davis received 795 votes, or 33%. Hansen had 681 votes, or 28%. Challenger John Mink had 502, or 21%, and Elias Garvey had 400 votes, or 17%. There were also 12 write-ins, equalling 1% of the total vote.
In conjunction with the election results certification, Mayor Rachel Lord thanked all the candidates who ran for a city council seat and the election workers who facilitated the city election.
