John W. Quinlan

Long time Homer resident John W. Quinlan passed peacefully on Sept. 8, 2021 in South Peninsula Hospital.

John was born on July 26, 1960 in Syracuse, New York. He moved with is family to Homer in May of 1970.

John was homeschooled at the head of Kachemak Bay for several years. He graduated from Homer High School in 1979.

He attended University of Alaska in Fairbanks for three years. Upon returning home, he attended the Alaska Bible Institute.

During the Valdez oil spill in March 1989, he worked day and night as a cook in Cordova for several months.

John worked for the family business Rainbow Tours from 2000 until he retired.

John attended the Refuge Chapel for many years, often playing his music and singing. He loved to write and create poems on his musical side. He played and sang in many places over the years throughout Homer.

He had a good heart and brought joy to all that loved him.

John was preceded in death by his father, James W. Quinlan, and his sister, Jessie L. Quinlan.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joann Quinlan; his daughter, Nicole Windom of Juneau; his mother, Fran Montgomery; his brother, Wes T. Quinlan of Washington, and his sister, Alysia Quinlan of Oregon, and several nieces and nephews.

John enjoyed the holidays so much we will have a celebration of his life on Dec. 28 when his family and friends can be together, with the place to be announced later.
