Phyllis Ledger, 79, passed away at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer on October 20, 2012.
She was born in Nebraska City, Neb. to Dale W. and Hazel LaVerne Livingston on June 29, 1933. The family moved to Southern California where she graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1951. She met the love of her life Donald Lee Ledger and they were married on July 20, 1952. Phyllis and Don moved to Anchor Point in 1956, where they raised their family on their homestead on the North Fork Road.
Phyllis’ life was full of contentment whether she was living in a one room tarpapered cabin or in her finished three-story home. Phyllis was known for opening her home and heart to everyone. She loved cooking for family and friends, nurturing her flower gardens, and was always ready with a listening ear. She also enjoyed politics and watching sports. Her favorite sports were basketball, horse racing and football. She liked the Nebraska Cornhuskers and any Alaskan that made it “big.” Her sense of humor and common sense endeared her to all those who knew her.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald Ledger, her children Steven and Catherine Ledger of North Pole, Laurie and Lee Martin of Homer, Susan Ledger of Anchor Point, and Donna and Keith Chesser of Star, Idaho; grandchildren, John Ledger, Rachel and Ace Keim, Glenn and Eddie Martin, Paulina and Jacob Baker, Kinna Ledger and Roman and Trenton Chesser; great-grandchildren, Ian, Austin and Avery Keim, Alinna, Jeremiah, Larissa and Lucas Baker, and Tyrell Martin. She also is survived by her brothers and sisters; Dale Livingston, Mary and John Rue, Saundra Perkins, Bill and Marian Livingston, Tom and Jan Livingston and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Condolences may be mailed to the family in care of Phyllis Ledger, 4013 Svedlund Street Apt. 1, Homer, AK 99603.
