Anchor Kings medal at two tournaments in one weekend

Anchor Kings headed north to the Friday Tri-Valley Greco tournament in Palmer and spent Saturday at Service High for the Alaska Battle Cats Freestyle tournament.

Blake Newman took first place in Friday’s Greco and Wayne Newman took second place. Blake started the Greco tournament with a significant win by technical fall over a wrestler who has beaten him previously. His two other matches were both wins by pin.

On Saturday wrestling continued with freestyle wrestling. Blake Newman, Wayne Newman, and Jadzia Martin earned first place finishes. Wayne earned a first after beating the wrester who beat him for first on Friday evening.

Kyle Wells earned a second place medal. Landan Branstetter also went to Anchorage and is continuing to improve with every match.

Anchor Kings will take this next weekend off before leaving for the state championships April 28-30.

The Kings have a big fundraising weekend planned with a car wash, yard sale and concessions from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Chapman School. The team is trying to earn money to take every wrestler to state and help pay their freestyle tournament fees.
