Kenai volleyball sweeps Homer

The visiting Kenai Central volleyball team swept Homer on Tuesday in Southcentral Conference play.

In a battle of two of the conference’s elite teams, the Kardinals rolled to 25-14, 25-19 and 25-18 scores. Kenai moves to 11-0 in nontournament play and 7-0 in the league, while Homer is 8-2 and 5-2.

Kenai had defeated Homer 3-2 on Sept. 30.

“I wouldn’t even say it was our best game, but we got the job done for sure,” Kenai coach Tracie Beck said. “We need to continue to grow in many areas, but everybody chipped in and lightened the load.”

Beck said setter Jorgi Phillips, who had 24 assists and three aces, is doing a great job distributing to all of Kenai’s weapons.

Erin Koziczkowski and Emma Beck both had eight kills and two stuff blocks, while Genesis Trevino added six kills.

Beck said Koziczkowski and Beck provide a tall block on defense and consistent hitting on offense.

“Erin is such a hard-working kid, I definitely hate to think she’s a senior,” Beck said.

For Homer, Izzy Dye had six kills, while Olivia LaFleur had five kills and Nevaeh Diaz had three kills. Homer coach Stephanie Carroll also said in a text message that Zoe Adkins and Lizzie Flodin served well, with Flodin collecting three aces.
