Varsity soccer plays in regions over weekend

The Mariners recognized the senior soccer players from the boys and girls varsity teams, who were accompanied by parents, siblings and friends, in between the Saturday, May 14 games against Seward.

Quinn Alward, Marley McQuire, Daniel Wiest, Rachel Ellert, Mariah Vantrease, Sydney Lee, Desiree Cleary, Sam Draves and Kaela Jiron were celebrated by their team. Nouredine Mama, a foreign exchange student, also received recognition for his time on the team.

Both boys and girls varsity teams play in regions Thursday, May 19 – Saturday, May 21. The Mariner boys’ first game is against Colony at 1 p.m. at Soldotna High School. If they beat Colony, they will go on to play either SoHi or Palmer at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 20 at Kenai Central High School.

The girls first play Colony as well, at 11 a.m. at KCHS on Thursday. If they beat Colony, the girls will play either Kenai or Palmer at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 20 at KCHS.

 

Homer soccer blasts Seward

 

A 12th-minute goal that gave Seward the lead on Saturday didn’t last long against the Mariners, who beat Seward 6-1.

Homer got goals from Oliver Beck, Charles Rohr, Simon Dye and Quinn Alward to notch the Northern Lights Conference win in Homer. Dye scored twice to lead the Mariners, who finished the regular season 2-3 in the South division and 7-7 overall.

On Friday, the Homer girls shut out Voznesenka 7-0, then posted another shutout Saturday with a 6-0 win over NLC opponent Seward at home. The Mariners got a pair of goals each from Uliana Reutov and Sam Draves on Saturday.

The victory left the Homer girls with a 3-2 NLC record and 10-5 overall.

Homer soccer camps about to kick off

 

Registration is still open for the Homer youth soccer camps this summer. The first camp starts Monday, May 23. All five two-week camps are open to ages 3-17. 

NCAA Division 1 college and Olympic team coaches are traveling to Homer to coach youth soccer player attending the camp. To register, visit homersoccer.com

Camp 3: June 20- July 1

Camp 4: July 11- July 22

Camp 5: July 25- August 5

Little Feet age 3-6: Mon and Wed 10:15a.m.-11:15a.m. 

6-9 year olds: Mon, Wed, Fri, 11:30a.m.-12:45 p.m. 

10-13 year olds: Monday-Friday 1:45p.m.-3:15p.m. 

14-17 years olds: Monday-Friday 3:30p.m.- 6p.m.
