The first Homer Farmers Market was held on Aug. 5, 2000 in a vacant lot on Ocean Drive. Organizers said it was a big success, with many vendors selling out early. The market continued from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday through August.

A California man camped on the Homer Spit was charged with stealing aluminum and brass parts from several local businesses and selling them for scrap. The 36-year-old man was charged with allegedly taking propellers, sheets of aluminum, car parts, fuel tanks and other items from a machine shop, a muffler shop, a metal shop and other businesses.

A new doctor arrived in Homer. Dr. Robert E. Hill joined the practice of Homer physician Dr. Paul Eneboe. He previously ran the Bethel hospital.
