BEST DISCOUNTED MUSEUM RATE BET: The Pratt Museum will be waiving their usual $5 discounted admission for families using SNAP or WIC benefits during the government shutdown. In conjunction with the Museums for All initiative, families who present their SNAP card will receive free admission to the Pratt Museum for up to four family members until SNAP benefits are fully restored. BEST HOMER FOUNDATION ANNUAL MEETING BET: The public is invited to the Homer Foundation’s annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13 from 5-7 p.m. at Kachemak Bay Campus! The Foundation will kick things off with a look back at the year, then give you the chance to visit breakout tables hosted by board members to learn more about our funds and programs – before wrapping up with live music. Event highlights include a year-in-review of the Foundation’s impact, breakout tables to explore specific areas of the Foundation’s work from Grants and Scholarships to Legacy Giving, a special classical guitar performance by Dr. Bill White and a presentation of the People’s Choice Award, where two $1,000 grants will be awarded to local nonprofit organizations. Light appetizers and sweet treats will be provided. Free and open to the public – all are welcome! Community members are asked to RSVP if you plan to attend. BEST GET A LOCALLY GROWN CHRISTMAS TREE BET: Homer Council on the Arts is hosting a Christmas tree fundraiser! Get locally grown spruce trees for your Christmas celebrations this year. Trees will be sold for $10 per foot, minimum 5 feet tall and maximum 12 feet tall. Also available are pine boughs for $2 each and spruce boughs for $1.50 each.
